Water described as “hard” is high in dissolved minerals, specifically calcium and magnesium. As water moves through soil and rock, it dissolves very small amounts of minerals. The degree of “water hardness” becomes greater as the calcium and magnesium content increases. Hard water is not a health risk but mineral build-up (scaling) may occur within appliances that use water taken from the mains water supply. If left untreated, scaling may cause irreparable damage to these appliannces. Water hardness is an issue that affects a number of areas around the UK.

If you intend to use a Segafredo coffee capsule machine in a hard water area we recommend that you regularly (as per the detergent instructions) use a liquid descaling agent that has been specifically designed for use in domestic automatic coffee machines. Machine faults arising from scaling or if the machine has not been properly maintained will not be covered under the 12 month warranty.

If you are using a ‘New SZ’ coffee capsule machine then change the water filter every 150 coffee in hard water areas. Contact us for more information about water filters.
